Queen Igraine
According to legend, Igraine was the mother of the legendary King Arthur. She is often depicted in her youth, before she bore Arthur, however I decided that I wanted to depict a wise and aged queen who has spent her life guiding her son toward becoming one of England’s most legendary kings. I chose to stay with rich primary colours which would have been available in medieval times, and embossed velvet and silk crepe fabrics that gave a feel of luxury and royalty. Through this project I was able to explore techniques like quilting, beading, fabric painting and basic millinery.
