This particularly interesting commission was inspired by a beloved Steampunk style figurine which featured an octopus style dress with gold detailing and matching collar.
The lovely customer Lolly didn't want an exact copy, so we tweaked a few details including changing the underskirt from brown to a vibrant emerald green satin and went for a textured black rather than plain. It was a particularly interesting challenge to get the arms/tentacles to glide over the hips and only curl up at the ends, which involved manipulating the stuffing to be thinner at the top and adding wire inside the tips to help them curl and using a single strand of strong black thread to help anchor it in place. It was then a case of meticulously hand-stitching the gold detailing all the way around each arm and onto the bodice and collar.
This piece was such a unique challenge, and Lolly was such a joy to work with!
