Cinderelly, Cinderelly
With the end to the UK’s national lockdown in sight, it has been a great feeling to begin working on some bespoke cosplay costumes again.
The lovely Bria got in touch for a custom dress to wear to Dapper Day at Disneyworld Florida, inspired by the Cinderella’s pink dress in the Disney Classic film and I was so excited to get back to the studio again and start working on this beautiful dress.
I began by blocking out the pattern on the mannequin with some calico fabric, to get the shape I wanted, then laying this out to use as my pattern and cutting it in the top fabric and lining. I stitched bone channels to the lining and inserted some boning to help the dress keep it’s shape, then attached the top and lining together.
For the skirt, I used a circle shape so that it would be as full and twirly as possible, and stitched all the panels together and hemmed the raw edges.
After gathering the skirt and sewing it to the bodice, i hand stitched the lining down, added the eyelets for the back, and had a complete dress! Now for the decorations…
I used a wide stretch lace for the shoulders and hem, doubling it over at the hem to create a frill effect. The ribbon across the waist and bodice front was hand stitched into place, and each of the pink ribbon bows was made by hand specifically for the dress.
I’m extremely happy with the completed piece, and I’m so excited to see Bria’s photos from her trip to Disneyworld!
