Inspired by the old Turkish fairytale ‘The Princess and the Pig’, this costume was based on the stunning illustrations by Himapaan for the Red Fairy Book. I was able to explore many new techniques within this costume, including spray dying, cartridge pleating, and machine embroidery; the design of which was created using traditional patterns from the Ottoman Empire. I also created a full set of Elizabethan undergarments including a chemise, farthingale and pair of bodies (the 16th Century version of a corset), which have been modelled separately to show the details.
